On October 11, 2019 Attorney General William Barr gave a speech to the Law School at Notre Dame. The title of his message was, “A Threat to Democracy.” In it he used the phrase “militant secularists” to describe an internal threat to our country. “This is not decay,” Barr said. “This is organized destruction. Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia in an unremitting assault on religion and traditional values.”
I believe his quote is an accurate summation of the previous article, “Truth Be Told.” It was published on October 4, 2019 in netcastblog.ambassadorships.net. In it evidence was provided to show how this attack has been developed and disseminated. I spoke of the current disregard for anything resembling truth and a rejection of God, by the same groups the Attorney General was referencing.
The historical aspects of how man has reached these wrong conclusions rest within the use and/or misuse of logic. The current “battle” for the hearts and minds of Americans include a struggle for supremacy between inductive and deductive logic. This is so, even if the majority of the people participating don’t recognize it. The distinction can be framed another way by saying empiricism is attacking reason.
Mankind’s desire to be his own god and the advancement of naturalist’s empiricism are being used to obscure deductive reasoning through dishonesty; by hiding and disguising their own assumptions. The charlatan’s embrace of relativity and subjectivity steer people away from the truth, which includes an eternity separated from the love of God. (For reference read the last article titled, “Truth Be Told.”)
Believers need to realize time is short and the Great Commission, first delivered to the disciples, is with us to this day. There cannot be any more vacillating or hesitation. Every living, cognizant human being has a world view they adhere to and those views are certainly not created equal. If you go back to the article, “The Universe Speaks” you can get a good idea of what world views pertain to and how they fit into the context of the universe we live in.
A book by Dr. James Sire titled, “The Universe Next Door” presents 5 elements of a world view. They are:
- What is Prime Reality (aka. Who is God)?
- Who Is Man?
- What happens to man at death?
- What is the significance of human history?
- What is the basis of morality?
The only world view that has an adequate answer to the final question, “What is the basis of morality?” is a world view that confirms God’s existence. It is God that establishes right and wrong. Man can’t do this by himself.
The tests of coherence, correspondence, and consistency are important to the world views people have. These tests undermine the positions of evolution, naturalism, materialism and many others that aren’t as dominant. But in order to get people to recognize the truth, Christians need to reach out to them. Those people are found in all sizes and shapes. It is critical to remember that these people are found in all kinds of conditions. There is no “one size fits all” way to reach out to a lost, hurting, or self-serving world. However, there is one message that will help all mankind and that message is the gospel’s “Good News” of Jesus Christ.
So the question becomes, “How do we engage a society that has ever increasing numbers of people that have rejected reason, truth, and God?” The answer remains the same; get them so see their need for it. Sometimes that is done with care and gentleness; sometimes it is with a metaphorical 2×4 slapped up alongside their head. Usually it is somewhere in between. Regardless, as believers we all need to get in there and participate. It appears as if mankind is hell bent on destroying God’s world trying to set up a false utopia that will never be. Is this dystopic world, that mankind seems to envision and the “New World Order” they clamor for, a part of the biblical end times? Time will tell.
Believers know that God wants us to be His voice, calling the non-believers back to Himself. Jesus has told all mankind in (NASB) John 14: 6, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Christians are to share this Truth and address the inconsistencies used by the people we are in contact with. They are the lost, just as the rest of us once were. They are in need of a savior just as we were. They need to be reached out to just as we were whether it was family, a friend, an acquaintance, or pure happenstance; God reached out to us and changed our hearts and minds.
Good, timely and challenging article!
Thanks for your positive feedback. I have to say that I did feel a sense of validation when I read Attorney General Bill Barr’s comments, in his speech to the law school at Notre Dame. It is comforting when one sees that he is like minded with a person connected that high up in the current administration.
